I woke up early on Monday morning. I looked out the window and the world was covered in a blanket of snow. I woke up my boyfriend, and we decided to go to a forest nearby to photograph the first snow of the year. Once we arrived at our destination in the south of the Netherlands, the entire snowy forest was covered in thick, dense fog. I felt in awe and humbled at this sight. It was like being in a fairytale when I was walking there, it’s like being in white magic.

I shoot with a Nikon D750 with a 28-300 mm lens. Settings: f/9, ISO 100, 82mm. Shooting in the fog can be tricky because a camera focuses on contrast which gets lost in the fog. In fog and snow, I expose between +0.3 and +1.3, depending on the light conditions. For this particular shot I used +1. Because the fog was so dense, I had to really work with the image in post processing.

Get up early and chase the fog!
